This year the Foci MCGA team partnered up with Autumn through Make-A-Wish to design and create glass sculptures. The pieces were created by artist Emily McBride, Foci MCGA’s current Program Coordinator.

Autumn’s designs are inspired by sea glass and the Great Lakes of North America. Having seen the Netflix series ‘Blown Away’, Autumn was familiar with some color application techniques such as cane rollups and wanted to incorporate this into her designs. To accomodate social distancing and safely creating these pieces, all meetings were held virtually and the glassblowing process was recorded for Autumn’s family to enjoy from home.

The taller of the two pieces was created from Autumn's drawings while the shorter piece is an artist interpretation to be auctioned at Make-A-Wish’s Annual Fundraiser. We absolutely loved Autumn’s project and the challenge it posed! Thank you to Emily as well as Isaac, Tom, Tori, and Abbey for helping Autumn bring her dream glass piece to fruition! Below are some slides briefly describing the processes used by Emily to make Autumn’s designs come to life.
