Strategic Planning Update

Dear Members,

In our first decade as a non-profit, we’ve been humbled by the number of people that have shared our vision, and given their time, skills, and money to make sure it succeeds.  Our founder Michael Boyd gave us his studio's name. The glass workers and people who came looking for them, gave us the vision of making glass accessible to anyone who had the desire to create with it.  Many have added to the vision over the years, donating to support operations, hosting community nights, teaching classes, building equipment, and keeping the generator fueled up when the power goes out. As we enter our second decade, the time has come for Foci Minnesota Center for Glass Arts to plan for the next ten years.

In 2019 Foci MCGA engaged Creation In Common consultants to lead a collaborative process in creating a new strategic plan.  As part of the process many of our stakeholders, such as members, directors, and staff, were asked to identify our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.  Based on these recommendations, a 2020-2023 Strategic Plan and new Mission, Vision and Values were created to reflect the changing needs of our growing organization. Strategic plans focus the energy, resources, and time of everyone in our organization, allowing us to work together to accomplish our goals. The Mission, Vision, and Values are concise explanations of our reason for existence, what we aspire to be, and the core principles that guide and direct our organizations culture. The Mission, Vision, and Values are particularly important to a non-profit, as public declarations of what we offer in repayment of the public trust.   I’m proud to share a summary of our 2020 vision with you.

Our Mission: To Gather People to the Creative Potential of Glass.

Our Vision: A diverse community of dedicated makers, enthusiasts, seekers, and newcomers who feel welcomed and engaged at our center.

Our Values:

  • Learn and Share the Language of Glass

  • Facilitate Access

  • Be in it Together

  • Meet the Challenge of Glass

  • Shake up the Intersections of the Craft

You will find more details on our 2020-2023 Strategic plan and new Mission, Vision, Values can be found here on our website.  On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’ve like to extend a big thank you to everyone that gave feedback and input. We look forward to hearing from everyone again in 2022 when we begin our next strategic plan cycle.
