Freeze and fuse is a kiln process used to create 3 dimensional forms without needing to make a plaster/silica mold. Instead, through filling a silicone/flexible open-face mold with glass powder, adding water and freezing the glass, small pieces can mimic kiln cast glass.

Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Kilnforming is recommended, but not required.

All materials and tools are provided.

2-Day Tech Session, 6 hours of class time total.

Class is limited to 8 seats. Limited to 2 participants.

This educational service is nontaxable.

In order to rent studio time and work independently in Foci MCGA's studios, makers must first take a multi-week glass Core Class. Core classes provide essential safety information. Individuals who have only taken a Glass Discovery or a Tech Session are not able to rent the glass studio.

To ensure proper use of the kilns and success of artwork, all class projects (made outside of class time) should be set aside and fired by the instructor when class meets next.

Kilns may be rented at a discounted rate by students during class, and up to 7 days past the final day of class. Within this time frame, students can use scrap glass for projects or bring in their own glass.
