This introduces participants to the basics of hot casting from the furnace into sand. Students learn the process from start to finish, including the preparation of objects, making impressions in the sand, and ladling molten glass. Sandcasting is a fast paced process that requires teamwork. Students work with basic relief molds using found objects and foam positives.
Prerequisite: Completion of Intro to Glassblowing is recommended but not required.
$300/person. All materials are provided.
1-day workshop, 6 hours total (with lunch break). Offered semiannually.
Please note that glassblowing is a hot activity, especially in the summer months. If you are particularly sensitive to heat, consider signing up in the spring, fall, or winter.
