Coldworking 1 class

Coldworking is an historically significant an important process in glassmaking that has a breadth of possibilities. Coldworking can be used for decorative, sculptural or practical applications. This course introduces students to the versatile equipment and processes associated with the cold shop. Students will be presented with theory and principles of each process. Students will complete projects that apply the methods taught in this course. This course will offer students a chance to work with the instructor for troubleshooting and project specific applications.

Prerequisite: No experience required.

Classes are held Sundays from 1pm-4pm.

Coldworking 2

In this course students will explore the decorative potential of glass through the cold working or cutting and engraving processes. Students will be introduced to traditional exercises that will be translated into individual designs. Surface decorating will be introduced with what is known as “rich cutting.” Specialized cutting and polishing equipment will be used to execute the work.

Prerequisites: Coldworking 1, or equivalent coursework may be accepted.

Classes are held Mondays from 6pm-9pm.

Coldworking 3

Special topics and individual problems will be covered in Coldworking 3. Topics may include construction and gluing methods, sculpting and advanced rich cutting. The instructor will work closely with each student to address individual design and assignments that introduce alternative and contemporary approaches.

Prerequisites: Coldworking 2, or equivalent coursework may be accepted.

Classes are held Mondays from 6pm-9pm.
